While the game itself didn’t live up to previous thrilling encounters, it showed how well the Westfield Matildas have developed under coach Alen Stajcic after the 1-0 win.
The Aussies more than matched it against a US side that lacked attacking fluency for most of this clash in front of a large crowd at the Century Link Field in Seattle.
The win will give the Aussies a huge boost heading into their next two games in the tournament against Japan and Brazil.
