Led by Newcastle Jets midfielder Arin Gilliland, Americans scored half of the goals in the penultimate round of the Westfield W-League, but the competition’s Golden Boot honour seems set to be a three-way battle ahead of the final round.
Gilliland netted an impressive hat-trick as the Jets shot down Sydney FC, while compatriots Danielle Colaprico (two) and Katie Stengel were also on the scoresheet.
An unlikely double from Melbourne City’s New Zealand international defender Rebekah Stott meant eight of the 12 goals in the round were nabbed by imports.
Heading into the final round, Ashleigh Sykes (Canberra United) and Sam Kerr (Perth Glory) lead on ten goals though the latter is set to miss the final round through suspension.
Melbourne Victory’s England forward Natasha Dowie is one goal off the pace, with Adelaide United duo Adriana Jones and Sofia Huerta three away from the leading pair heading into Sunday’s Fox Sports/ABC TV match against leaders Sydney FC.
