Aussies Abroad: Butt making waves in Norway

While there’s a host of Westfield W-League stars making their mark in America’s National Women’s Soccer League right now, there’s another Aussie doing big things in Norway.

Westfield Matildas midfielder Tameka Butt is on fire for Norwegian Toppserien club Klepp, who are currently sitting second in the league with five games to go.

While they can’t catch runaway leaders Lillestrom who are 16 points clear at the top, Klepp is on the verge of creating club history should they hold their position for the remainder of the campaign.

Klepp have never finished higher than fourth in Norway’s top-flight but should better that mark if they can maintain their current form.

And Butt has been a key figure for Oliver Harder’s side.

The 27-year-old, who played for Brisbane Roar in the Westfield W-League season, is one of the best midfielders in the league right now.

She’s shown a great ability to get forward and score goals, bagging five from just 13 starts this season.

Butt is Klepp’s second-highest scorer for the season, behind striker Hege Hansen.

Her last goal came just a fortnight ago, scoring in the final minute to snatch a 1-1 draw against third-placed Sandviken.

The Westfield Matildas star will be hoping to be amongst the goals again on Sunday morning (AEST) when her side faces Grand Bodo.
