"Canberra is my home": Maher signs on for sixth season in Green
STAR midfielder Grace Maher has re-signed with Canberra United ahead of the 2021/22 W-League season.
The 22-year-old will embark on her sixth W-League campaign at the club, having made her debut for the Green Machine as a 15-year-old in 2014.
Maher spent two seasons at Melbourne Victory between 2018 and 2020 before rejoining United for the 2020/21 campaign, in which she scored two goals and assisted two more through 13 games operating through the centre of the park for Vicki Linton's side.
59 W-League appearances to date have helped Maher acquire immense experience at a young age - experience head coach Linton says will help her midfield ace excel once again for the club in 2021/22.
“It is great having players such as Grace who are so passionate about playing for the club," Linton told the club website.
“Grace continues to grow as a professional player and it will be good to work with her again this season and to see that continued development.”
Maher is the fifth player to commit to the club ahead of the 2021/22 season to date.
She joins Laura Hughes, 20, in Linton's engine room, along with teenage defender Emma Ilijoski and strikers Michelle Heyman and Allira Toby, with further signings to come as the season draws closer.
“I am proud and excited to be back in green this season,” Maher said.
“We had a successful campaign to get back into finals football last year and I cannot wait to be here to help build on that.
“Canberra is my home and the feeling of playing for United is something I don’t get at other clubs.
“This season is set to be exciting and I think building off what we created last year and improving those finer details will be key for us this year”.
