City take hold as crowds flock - Round 2 review

Melbourne City are the only team with a perfect record after two rounds of the Westfield W-League.

The champions collected a tough 2-1 win over Canberra United in a meeting between two of the competition’s heavyweights on Saturday.

There was an equally headline-grabbing match on Sunday as Sydney FC prevailed 2-0 over Western Sydney Wanderers.

Leena Khamis scored twice in the first half with the match drawing a club record 4,178 strong crowd – the second best attendance for a Westfield W-League regular season match.

Newcastle Jets were the round’s big winners, with their stunning 4-0 win at Melbourne Victory based around three goals inside the opening half-hour.

Conversely Perth Glory and Brisbane Roar, two teams who won in the opening round, were forced to settle for a scoreless draw.

Next weekend’s round is highlighted by the Fox Sports/ABC TV match as Newcastle Jets host Perth Glory.
