Western Sydney Wanderers have continued their rebuild by snaring Westfield Young Matilda Kyra Cooney-Cross from Premiers Melbourne Victory.
Cooney-Cross has turned out in 16 Westfield W-League matches over the past two seasons and she featured four times as Victory lifted the Premiers Plate in 2018/19.
The 17-year-old is currently at the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship in Thailand as Australia bids for a place in the FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup™.
New Wanderers coach Dean Heffernan has reloaded his roster after the Red and Black collected only four points in a wooden-spoon 2018/19 campaign.
“Kyra is a talented young player who will add creativity to our midfield,” said Heffernan.
“We’re excited to see how she progresses with us this season in the W-League.”
Cooney-Cross will be providing the ammunition for United States pair Kristen Hamilton and Lynn Williams, who netted 21 goals between them in the National Women’s Soccer League for double trophy winners North Carolina Courage.
Western Sydney have also added Westfield Matildas midfielder Amy Harrison as Heffernan aims to lead the Harbour City side up the Westfield W-League ladder.
