Cooper on our unfinished business

Wanderers defender Caitlin Cooper on re-signing for her seventh season with the Red & Black and her unfinished business after the record-breaking 2019/20 season.

The Red & Black today confirmed Cooper's re-signing after the defender played a key role in the Wanderers history-making season.

For Cooper, the coming Westfield W-League season is all about building on the foundation that was created last season.

“The main reason that drove me to re-sign with the club was that I wanted to finish off what we started last year,” said Cooper.

“What head coach Dean Heffernan and his assistants Michael Beauchamp and Catherine Cannuli created is something that the Wander Women have lacked in previous years.

"On a personal level, I want to get back to enjoying and playing my best football.

“As one of the older players, I want to mentor the next generation of Wanderers and help them to be the best player and person they can be.

"On a team level, I really want to build on what we had last season and I hope we can make everyone proud of our achievements."

With the sights set on the Wander Women going one better and one further, Cooper believes it all comes down to the hard work and determination of the collective.

"Last season's success came down to the core group of girls who just worked hard for each other and the coaching staff - all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into making every session run smoothly," said Cooper.

“The new facilities that our team had access to at the club’s Centre of Football also gave it a different feel to last season.

“I believe that if we put in as much hard work and show the passion that we had last season, there’s no reason why we can’t go one further this time around.”
