Dobson refuses to give up on Melbourne City's fading finals hopes
Melbourne City’s Westfield W-League top-four aspirations might be on the brink, but that doesn’t worry Rhali Dobson.
Sixth-placed City are in danger of missing the Finals Series for the first time in the club’s history with just three rounds of the season remaining.
As such, the three-time reigning Champions must win their remaining two fixtures and pray that the Westfield W-League top four all stumble to book their Finals ticket.
That might be a tall order for Rado Vidosic’s side, but 26-year-old attacker Dobson hasn’t stopped believing.
“The W-League has shown this year that everyone can beat everyone, so realistically it’s still in our hands,” she told the club’s official website.
“We can still win both games and make the finals, we believe in ourselves, we just need to start playing to our strengths and playing with a bit of flexibility and we can come out on top.”
Melbourne begin their last-ditch assault with a home clash against Newcastle Jets on Sunday.
Dobson, who began her career with the Novocastrians back in 2008, is aware of the threat a Newcastle side full of confidence pose.
“It’s going to be a tough game, they’re going to be coming into the match on a high as they played very well against Perth, which is to their credit considering all the injuries that they have had,” she said.
“But we’ve got a great record against them, we’re very determined, we’ve worked hard and we are going to play to back each other, play to our strengths and that will hopefully bring us out on top.”
