Canberra United v Brisbane Roar
Thursday, 7:30pm AEDT

Brisbane Roar’s 5-1 loss to Sydney FC feels an eternity ago following their past two showings in the Westfield W-League.

Mel Andreatta’s side bounced back in style and are now sitting pretty joint-top of the ladder alongside Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory.

Their resurgence began in Round 7 when they conjured Victory’s first loss of the season in a thrilling 4-3 win at Lions FC Stadium, followed by a 3-1 showing against Western Sydney Wanderers.

One gets the feeling Canberra are yet to regularly play their best football.

Results such as their 2-0 victory over Sydney FC in Round 5 and their Round 1 win against Melbourne City, have given fans a taste of their quality.

Yet, consistency has lacked, shown in a 3-0 loss to Melbourne City last time out.

And that is why Canberra find themselves in the middle of the pack and just within touching distance of the top four.

McKellar Park’s set to host a cracker on Thursday night — what a way to start Round 9!

How to watch:  Tune in to FOX SPORTS 505 to catch this clash, with kick-off at 7:30pm AEDT. You can also stream the match live on the MyFootball Live App, Live Fast and Data Free for Telstra mobile customers. Melbourne Victory v Perth Glory
Friday, 5:20pm AEDT

Is there a better gift than Friday night’s clash between Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory? AAMI Park will be hosting a double-header and both games see first take on second.

Strong showings by Perth Glory, followed by Melbourne Victory's consecutive losses,  have seen Bobby Despotovski's side join the summit. Victory lost 4-3 in Brisbane before they were unable to complete their comeback in a 3-2 loss to Adelaide United in Round 8.

Not that Perth Glory will care. As far as they’re concerned, they are top of the ladder too and for good reason.

Perth have scored 11 goals in their last four games, including a 5-2 win over Melbourne City and a 2-1 result over Sydney FC in Round 8.

That Glory have beaten the Westfield W-League 2018 Grand Finalists suggests they are one of the big guns too and most certainly a force to be reckoned with.

15 of Perth’s 19 goals have come from either Sam Kerr, Rachel Hill or Alyssa Mautz, so expect another rise in the goal tally as these two sides do battle.

How to watch:  Tune in to FOX SPORTS 505 to catch this clash, with kick-off at 5:20pm AEDT. Alternatively, you can watch the match live and free-to-air on SBS VICELAND. Newcastle Jets v Adelaide United
Sunday, 4:30pm AEDT

The bye may have come at just the right time for Newcastle Jets as they host an Adelaide United outfit brimming with confidence and oozing goals.

Some fans may have thought Adelaide’s 5-2 loss to Sydney FC was a moment for the Westfield W-League to correct itself — to perhaps restore natural order.

Yet, the Reds’ 3-2 win over arch-rivals Melbourne Victory shows Adelaide are well and truly united and near the summit for a reason.

Reds win

The Jets, meanwhile, will be fresh following their Round 8 hiatus. They were lucky to salvage a point against Perth in Round 7 thanks to the heroics of Britt Eckerstrom, and were comprehensively outclassed against Melbourne City in their 3-1 loss the week before.

With five games remaining, Jets are going to have to win more games than they lose if they are to cement a spot in the top four.

How to watch:  Tune in to FOX SPORTS 505 to catch this clash, with kick-off at 4:30pm AEDT. Alternatively, you can watch the match live and free-to-air on SBS VICELAND. You can also stream the match live on the MyFootball Live App, Live Fast and Data Free for Telstra mobile customers. Western Sydney Wanderers v Melbourne City
Tuesday, 5:20pm AEDT

Melbourne City travel to ANZ Stadium on New Years Day in a peculiar position.

As we near approach the conclusion of the Westfield W-League 2018/19 Season, City look just as likely to defend their three-consecutive Championships as they are to fall short of the top four.

They appeared to get things back on track with a brave 1-1 draw against Adelaide United in Round 5, before beating Newcastle Jets 3-1 on their own turf in Round 6.

A 3-0 success followed against Canberra United last time out and if City’s Westfield Matildas contingent of Kyah Simon, Tameka Butt, Elise Kellond-Knight and Lydia Williams can all stay fit, along with their other stars like Jasmyne Spencer, you can bet City are a good chance of scraping into the top four.

For Western Sydney Wanderers, the equation is a lot more simple: Win all five of their remaining games and hope other results go their way.

Dan Barrett’s side looked close to undoing Brisbane Roar when they locked the scores at 1-1, but were eventually outclassed by a ruthless outfit.

That has been the story of their season, with their 2-2 draw with Canberra United following a similar narrative — one where they were so close, but so far from all three points.

With the Hyundai A-League men following the Westfield W-League women at ANZ Stadium on Tuesday night, there aren’t many better ways to kickstart the new year.

How to watch:  Tune in to FOX SPORTS 505 to catch this clash, with kick-off at 5:20pm AEDT. Alternatively, you can watch the match live and free-to-air on SBS VICELAND.
