Jets aim to shoot down high-flying City

This weekend's Fox Sports/ABC TV match will see Newcastle Jets aim to continue their charge for an unlikely finals berth when they host a rampant Melbourne City.

It promises to be a fascinating contest at Hunter Stadium on Sunday afternoon as the unheralded Jets become the latest side to try and cut down the undefeated table-toppers.

It will be the Jets’ first home game of the season in front of a nationwide TV audience, and their first at the city’s main stadium this term.

Newcastle had last weekend off, but the week before they recorded one of the most famous wins in the club’s history - a 4-0 victory at two-time champions Brisbane Roar.

The Jets have few headline names within their ranks, and the contrast with Melbourne City’s all-star line-up is stark.

The Jets, however, are playing with rare confidence and within sight of a first Westfield W-League finals appearance since season one, way back in 2008/09.

City will potentially field an all-international XI and that means a treat for fans in the stadium at 2pm, ahead of the Hyundai A-League match-up between the same two clubs.

And if statistics are anything to go by goals will be assured in both games, with City top-scorers in both competitions.

Watch all the action Live from 2.00pm nationally on Fox Sports (Channel 505), or ABC TV. Or catch-up on ABC iView.
