Match preview: Adelaide United v Canberra United

Michelle Heyman comes up against Canberra United on Thursday evening for the first time since making the switch to Adelaide United in the off-season.

The Westfield W-League's all-time top goalscorer made a habit of scoring in Canberra green but is yet to open her account in the red of Adelaide United.

She will lack no shortage of motivation in Thursday evening's clash, though, which opens rebel Female Football Round.

Both sides are sat on four points but it is the Reds who carry the momentum following last weekend's giant killing.

Having finished bottom last season, Adelaide United threw the form book out of the window to beat Premiers Brisbane Roar on their own turf, with Veronica Latsko finishing off a superb team move to secure the points.

They had to weather storms for the majority of the clash from there, but were thankful that they did not come up against the sort of quality which Canberra faced.

Having scored six goals in their opening two games, Canberra had no response to Cortnee Vine's stunning strike in Newcastle last week, with the remarkable Round 2 collapse against Perth Glory perhaps still dwelling in their minds.

United can, however, welcome back Scotland captain Rachel Corsie from international duty, but they will remain without South Africa star Refiloe Jane.

Suspicions that Jane's creativity would be sorely missed during her participation at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations are certainly being realised, while her stay looks to be extended with South Africa's surprise 1-0 victory over dominant force Nigeria in Group B.
