Match preview: Brisbane Roar v Melbourne Victory

Pace-setters Melbourne Victory go to defending Premiers Brisbane Roar on Sunday in a vitally important clash for both teams in the Westfield W-League 2018/19 Season.

Victory have been the surprise packets of the campaign so far, unbeaten after five games and with a four-point lead at the top of the ladder.

Much of their success has come on the back of Natasha Dowie’s goals, with the striker contributing five of Victory’s nine for the season.

But Jeff Hopkins’ side have really built their success on superb organisation, commitment and team-work.

And they’ll need to produce all that and more at Lions Stadium against a Roar outfit eager to bounce back from their 5-1 mauling at the hands of Sydney FC last weekend.

While Mel Andreatta’s Roar have been inconsistent this campaign, they do know a win here would move them into the top four.

And recent history suggests this could go either way, with the last four meetings between the two clubs seeing two wins apiece.

It will be an extra special match for Victory attacker Emily Gielnik, who comes up against her former club for the first time.
