Match preview: Melbourne City v Brisbane Roar
Games don’t get any bigger or important than this — one point separates fourth and fifth as Melbourne City host Brisbane Roar in a Round 11 Westfield W-League blockbuster on Friday afternoon.
With Brisbane one point ahead of City, a win for either side would go a long way to determining who will have a chance at winning the 2019 Championship come February.
Prior to their 1-0 against Melbourne Victory in Round 11, hosts City were in some fine form, registering three wins on the trot and going from second-last to fifth on the ladder.
It all began with a 3-1 win over Newcastle Jets, before 3-0 and 2-1 wins against Canberra United and Western Sydney Wanderers, respectively, put their season back on track.
Brisbane Roar have some form of their own heading into this clash, unbeaten in three which includes two wins.
The first came in a 4-3 win over Melbourne Victory to end their unbeaten start to the 2018/19 Season, before backing it up with a 3-1 win over Western Sydney.
Round 9’s draw against Canberra brought Mel Andreatta’s side back to reality, but a week’s rest at such a busy time in the season will have no doubt rejuvenated the squad.
Brisbane will take on a Melbourne City side without Kyah Simon, after the 27-year-old confirmed she will miss the rest of the Westfield W-League 2018/19 Season due to an ankle injury.
With everything to play for on Friday afternoon, AAMI Park will be buzzing.
Ins and outs
