Match preview: Newcastle Jets v Adelaide United

The bye could not have come at a better time for Newcastle Jets as they now host an Adelaide United side back in the winners' circle and within a point of the Westfield W-League summit.

Craig Deans’ side haven’t experienced a win since their 1-0 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers on November 24, yet they are still remarkably well and truly in the hunt for a top-four finish.

The bye will have served Newcastle well, particularly off the back of a 2-2 draw against Perth Glory where Newcastle Played with 10 women for over an hour after Larissa Crummer received a straight red card.

On the contrary, Adelaide United bounced back from their 5-2 loss to Sydney FC in the best possible way. The Reds came out blazing and raced ahead to a 3-0 lead against Melbourne Victory, holding on in the end at 3-2.

Off the back of Adelaide’s stoic defence and seemingly sparse attack in the opening few rounds, questions were asked about the Reds’ ability to unlock defences.

However, nine rounds later, and with the likes of Michelle Heyman and Veronica Latsko finding their form, it’s abundantly clear Adelaide do not struggle to find the back of the net.

Latsko has been particularly impressive, bagging seven goals and an assist in seven games.

Sunday afternoon’s clash is will be broadcast on both FOX SPORTS and SBS VICELAND, so you best find yourself a screen — or, better yet, head to McDonald Jones Stadium!
