Match preview: Perth Glory v Newcastle Jets

There’s likely to be a few goals at Dorrien Gardens on Saturday night as leading-scorers Perth Glory host the Newcastle Jets.

In the last eight games between Glory and the Jets, there’s been 30 goals scored at almost four per match.

And the way Glory have been banging them in this season you’d expect more of the same in the west.

The home side head into the contest after playing out a 2-2 draw with Adelaide United last weekend, despite playing long periods with just 10 players after Alyssa Mautz was sent off.

It’s been a tough couple of weeks for the Jets, who have suffered back-to-back defeats to first Brisbane Roar (1-0) and then Melbourne City (3-1).

So it’s a vital game for both sides but for different reasons.

Second-placed Glory are looking to keep the pressure on league-leaders Melbourne Victory, while the Jets – currently in eighth – need the points to keep in touch with the top four.

While the Jets have won just one of the last eight clashes between these two sides, you have to go back to 2014 for the last time that Glory took all three points.

Not surprisingly, Sam Kerr is the player the Jets will need to shackle if they are to get a result.

The Westfield Matildas striker scored a seven-minute hat-trick against the Jets last season in a thrilling 3-3 draw in the Hunter.
