Preview: Adelaide United v Perth Glory

Perth Glory’s trip to Adelaide United is shaping as a pivotal contest for both sides, despite the gap on the table.

Perth will be full of confidence after their win over Sydney FC lifted them to a share of equal third alongside some of the competition’s heavyweights. Their big name players are certainly making a positive impact, none more so than captain Sam Kerr who is now equal top-scorer in the competition with three goals.

However, Adelaide’s showing in last Sunday’s 3-2 loss to heavy-hitters Brisbane Roar belied their lowly position on the ladder. Adelaide bounced back from 3-0 down, to nearly cause an upset in Brisbane. With the likes of Sofia Huerta, Adriana Jones and Marijana Rajcic they have enough x-factor to undo the Glory.

“The fightback shows our character and it is evident that we are fighters and believe in what we do, even when we have been down, we still continue to play the same way,” said Adelaide coach Huss Skenderovic.

“We need to be a bit more potent in front of goal and kill games off rather than miss those chances, get hit on a counter-attack, and then end up trying to chase games.”

The two sides have a strong shared history. And while Adelaide have won just two of 14 encounters, they have lost just one of the past three match-ups.
