Preview: Adelaide United v Western Sydney Wanderers

A fascinating match-up is in store in Adelaide as local heroines United host the erratic Western Sydney Wanderers.

Adelaide may currently hold down bottom spot but after an injury-hit campaign, their recent strong form contradicts their modest position on the ladder.

Last weekend saw Adelaide draw with star-studded Canberra United, but with an ounce of luck they would have collected a first win of the season.

They could well earn a deserved maiden win on Saturday evening, but again injury has dented their plans with captain Stella Rigon forced out this weekend, while No1 goalkeeper Eliza Campbell is confirmed to miss the remainder of the campaign.

“We have been playing really well recently, especially with the last two draws against Melbourne City and Canberra United, who are top teams,” Adelaide coach Huss Skenderovic said.

“We have great momentum, and as always, we are confident, something that we haven’t lost despite our position on the table.”

These two teams have a tight historical record with the Wanderers earning two wins to one over seven outings against United. The Wanderers earned a late 2-1 win earlier this season on home turf.

The Wanderers caused one of great Westfield W-League upsets in December with a win over champions Melbourne City, followed by a tight 2-1 defeat against rivals Sydney FC.

Yet last weekend saw a hefty one-sided 3-0 defeat against Brisbane Roar.

Which Wanderers side will turn up this weekend?
