Two years ago this would have been a mismatch of significant proportions but the Westfield W-League has proven itself to be a fast-evolving and dynamic competition. The very idea that Brisbane could be propping up the table was unthinkable.

Even a period of a few weeks can see the landscape change significantly. Three weeks ago Adelaide United were themselves in last position without a point to their name. Fast forward to the present day and they are in within touching distance of the top-four.

In fact a win in Brisbane will push the Lady Reds into a share of fourth, provided the Jets are shot down in the west later in the day.

Adelaide will have fond memories of their last visit to the Sunshine state when a storied 1-0 win – their only victory over the Roar in ten attempts – proved a symbolic result for the Lady Reds’ revolution under Ross Aloisi.

Adelaide, however, have lost a host of their talented teen crop for this weekend’s match as the Westfield Young Matildas continue their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign in Vietnam.

The Roar, in contrast, have their many star players all available, including goalkeeper Nadine Angerer who returns from international duty with Germany.

Brisbane turned in a strong performance last weekend at Sydney FC and there were strong signs that they are starting to rediscover their old mojo. Adelaide, you have been warned.
