Two-time champions Roar have never had a season like this one. They have lost four of their first five games, and now face an unprecedented third loss in succession. Defeat here again on home soil would leave their semi-finals hanging by a thread.

But it is surely only a matter of time before the all-star Roar line-up find their rhythm. There are, however, few harder opponents in that regard than Melbourne Victory with their high-intensity and, at times, high-pressing, style.

The Victory have only defeated the Roar once in their 12 meetings; that was in last season’s Grand Final as the home side prevailed with a 2-0 scoreline to claim a historic win.

Form over the past month suggests a repeat of that scoreline could be on the cards this Sunday in the match at Brisbane’s Goodwin Park.

Since losing on the opening day of the season, the Victory have collected three impressive wins and a rare draw on Sydney FC’s home turf, a run which contrasts markedly with the Roar’s unlikely run of results.

Star Victory forward Lisa De Vanna will be taking on her former side, while Roar midfielder Katrina Gorry will have the opposite experience lining up against the Melburnians.

Catch all the action Live nationally at 3.00pm Sunday on ABC1, or catch up from Monday on ABC iView with a full replay each Tuesday at 3.30am.
