Preview: Canberra United v Perth Glory

Much goes on the line in the nation’s capital on Saturday as Canberra United host Perth Glory in what could prove to be one of the matches of the season.

Two richly gifted attacking teams face up with the race for a home semi-final being contested between the pair.

For the Glory, who sit two points behind leaders Sydney FC, the chance to move top of the ladder is another rich reward on offer.

United, for the part, are a further three points adrift and likely need a win here if there are to still harbour hopes of a top-two finish and a home final.

A victory would also guarantee a finals ticket for Canberra, but they must overcome a surprising form slump to do so.

Canberra knocked over Melbourne City and Brisbane Roar during December, but then somehow suffered a club record defeat against Sydney FC followed by a draw against bottom side Adelaide United.

Incredibly, Glory have collected just one win in 14 previous matches against Canberra and never have they done so on the road.

The ace is Glory captain and Westfield Matildas attacking star Sam Kerr, who is in remarkable form having now scored in five successive matches to be the league’s leading scorer on nine goals.

Canberra, conversely, are without long-serving goal-ace Michelle Heyman after her ankle injury suffered just after Christmas, while Ellie Brush is again likely to be missing to remain one short of 100 competition appearances.
