The second edition of the Westfield W-League Melbourne derby is set up nicely after Melbourne Victory belatedly found form last week with an impressive win at Perth Glory.

There will be a slice of history too with the Victory to host their neighbours for the first time, with the match moved on Friday from Kingston Heath to the David Barro Stadium at Bulleen’s Veneto Club.

In the first meeting between the pair, an understrength City edged a somewhat fortunate 2-1 win at AAMI Park.

And this contest could be equally as close despite the pair being separated by the length of the table.

City, of course, have won all six games to be runaway leaders in their maiden Westfield W-League season.

The Victory, meanwhile, finally got off the mark last weekend with their performance providing genuine cause for optimism.

And their international attacking trio of Hayley Raso, American Christine Nairn and new England signing Natasha Dowie have enough quality to trouble any side.

Dowie enjoyed a strong debut last weekend in that 3-1 win in the west, and her arrival is perfectly timed after striker Laura Spiranovic suffered a season-ending posterior cruciate ligament injury during the week.

City are expected to be at full strength, although their Westfield Matildas representatives only arrived back earlier this week after a draining two-match visit to Korea Republic.

With no Hyundai A-League in town this weekend, this match shapes up as an attractive contest for Melburnian football fans featuring two entertaining sides.
