Preview: Melbourne Victory v Newcastle Jets

Melbourne Victory and Newcastle Jets will be anxious to enter the winners’ circle, with both entering this match still without a victory.

The Victory have suffered consecutive 2-1 defeats, with luck certainly not on their side. The Jets, for their part, have played just the one match securing a credible scoreless draw at Perth Glory. Nevertheless both will be wary of being left behind by the competition frontrunners and will have earmarked this one as a possible three-pointer.

Both sides have two players returning from international duty. Arguably, it is the Victory who need their international reinforcements the most. Hayley Raso returns from Westfield Matildas duty in China, while the highly influential Christie Nairn was with the USA squad for their two-match series against Brazil.

The Jets welcome back Westfield Matildas’ newbies Georgia Yeoman-Dale and Tara Andrews, with both youngsters no doubt invigorated by their national team experiences.

Melbourne boast a dominate 8-1 win-loss record against the Jets, having never been defeated on home soil. Can the Jets’ class of 2015 change that statistic?
