Preview: Western Sydney Wanderers v Perth Glory

A fascinating encounter looms in Western Sydney as two erratic sides line up with the Wanderers playing for pride while the Glory are desperate for victory.

The Glory face a curious scenario where a win could mean taking the premiership, while defeat could consign the side to fourth.

Also on offer is a home semi-final should they finish top-two, while a top-three finish means Grand Final hosting rights remains a possibility.

But the form book is quite simply impossible to read ahead of this match.

Recent weeks have seen both these sides produce wildly unpredictable results. The Glory’s lengthy winning run ended with an improbable 7-2 defeat at Canberra United, followed by a 2-1 home loss against Adelaide United last weekend.

The Wanderers, meanwhile, followed a 10-2 defeat at Adelaide with a win over 1-0 second-placed Canberra.

The long trip across the Nullarbor traditionally is a challenge for the Glory. Predictably, though, the Glory’s record in Western Sydney has oscillated wildly. Their one win in four previous matches at the Wanderers was a 10-1 victory!

Perth, though, will be hamstrung by the suspension of star forward Sam Kerr and American import Nicole Stanton.

Regardless of other results in the round, the Glory will be fighting desperately until the last minute for a result here.
