Each match-up seemingly comes with multiple sub-texts, not least of all the fact that numerous players on either side have grown up together in the NSW development pathway.

Sydney FC have earned a cleansweep of the four matches to date, though each contest has been highly competitive with three contests decided by a single goal.

The Sky Blues will again start as warm favourites given their status as joint leaders on the fledgling Westfield W-League ladder.

Their ranks have been boosted this week by the return of midfielder Trudy Camilleri and overlapping fullback Ellyse Perry, the latter providing a more than adequate replacement for the suspended Teigen Allen. Camilleri and Allen, as well as classy utility Server Uzunlar, all donned the Wanderers’ red and black last season.

There will be another reunion of sorts with Kendall Johnson joining Keelin Winters in the Wanderers’ line-up, where they will oppose fellow Americans Jasmyne Spencer and Samantha Johnson.

The Wanderers may have the youngest line-up in the league but despite successive defeats, they have proved far more than just nuisance value

A deceptively lop-sided 4-1 opening defeat against Canberra United was followed by a 5-3 loss to Melbourne Victory with the champions forced to come from behind to stave off the resilient Sydneysiders.
