Canberra United have confirmed the re-signing of Nikola Orgill on Thursday, with the versatile defender also named as one of the club's co-captains for the Westfield W-League 2019/20 Season.
Orgill, 26, was one of United's most consistent players last season, in what was her first campaign in the nation's capital having previously played for both Western Sydney Wanderers and Newcastle Jets.
“I am really looking forward to stepping up into a leadership role with the club,” Orgill told United's official website.
“I’ve played with most of the girls before and I’m really excited by the opportunity to co-captain such a great group of players.
“Being in Canberra for a year, I feel like a true local now and I can’t wait to represent the club and play in front of our amazing fans.”
Orgill is not only an outstanding player for Canberra, but also works as a lawyer.
Coach Heather Garriock believes her ability to juggle life on the field with that in the courtroom is an inspiration to her Canberra United teammates.
“Nikola will be balancing her day job as a young lawyer as well as committing to Canberra United,” Garriock said.
“This highlights that it’s possible to be an elite athlete as well as have a career, so she’s a great role model.
“Nikola brought us consistency and stability last season, and she will play a critical role in the leadership of Canberra United this season.”
