Sky Blues line-up Roar

This Sunday’s Fox Sports / ABC TV match is one of the red-letter fixtures on the Westfield W-League calendar as the league’s two most successful sides go head to head.

Sydney FC will host Brisbane Roar at Central Coast Stadium in Gosford with both sides enduring mixed seasons.

Sydney FC sit third though the Sky Blues are yet to full convince with their form, while the Roar are second from last.

It is all a far cry from the recent past when the pair shared four of the first five championship titles.

Nevertheless, high quality football will surely be on display with both sides able to count numerous internationals amongst their ranks. At least seven players who attended this week’s Westfield Matildas camp in Canberra can be expected to line up.

As always the numerous friendships will be put aside, and this is sure to be a physical encounter. There have been countless feisty match-ups between the pair down the years and, make no mistake, the respective players will have marked this one on the calendar some time ago.

Kirsty Yallop will be missing from the midfield for Brisbane after her red card in their last match, while the Sky Blues will hope to be at full strength though they have several players one caution away from a suspension.

The pair have shared six wins apiece in their 17 encounters, but the Sky Blues are undefeated in the past five outings against their old rivals.

The Roar enter the match on the edge of the precipice and they know if that recent run continues, they will be a step closer to toppling into the abyss.

The match will be followed by the Hyundai A-League encounter between Central Coast Mariners and Brisbane Roar at 5pm.

Watch all the action Live from 2.00pm nationally on Fox Sports (Channel 505), or ABC TV. Or catch-up on ABC iView.
