Westfield W-League on ABC1

Tune in to ABC1 each Sunday at 3pm nationally for LIVE* Westfield W-League action, this week featuring Western Sydney Wanderers playing host to a star-studded Canberra United.

The ABC's Sunday afternoon broadcast games will again be hosted by Stephanie Brantz, with former Matildas and Wanderers star Sarah Walsh joining Peter Wilkins in commentary.

Both teams will undoubtedly be anxious to start building momentum from the opening round by claiming all three points from this contest.

The home side under new coach Norm Boardman will field an entirely fresh team from that which took the park last year.

A host of headline names have departed paving the way for a fresh look based on Sydney’s seemingly endless production line of talented young female footballers.

Providing a guiding hand in a highly inexperienced side are Caitlin Cooper, Hannah Beard, Michelle Carney and Linda O’Neill, although the latter will miss the opening weeks of the season.

Canberra’s off-season could hardly have been different from that of their opponents with the squad virtually unchanged from last season.

Australia goalkeeper Lydia Williams is an unfortunate high-profile absentee due to another serious knee injury, with former USA youth international Chantel Jones – who spent last season with Perth Glory – taking her place between the sticks.

Fellow Americans Stephanie Ochs and Lori Lindsey have returned, as will Kendall Fletcher who will arrive as a guest player later this season.

Catch all the action Live* nationally at 3.00pm Sunday on ABC1, or catch up from Monday on ABC iView with a full replay each Tuesday at 3.30am.

*Live in AEDT states. No broadcast in WA or Vic this weekend due to pre-existing commitments.
