Kerr, Fishlock, Sykes: unforgettable Westfield W-League Grand Final moments
Now into its second decade, the Westfield W-League Grand Final has seen some pretty amazing moments.
From world-class strikes to clutch plays, there are many who have stepped up when their team needed them most.
We’ve found three of the best with one contributor in-line to create a few more on Saturday!
Sam’s first back-flip
Sam Kerr has come up with many big moments down the years but what about this one?
Back in 2013, Kerr, then with Sydney FC, truly announced herself as a genuine match-winner in the Westfield W-League Grand Final against Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park.
With scores locked at 1-1, Kerr popped up with a classic header shortly after half time to put her side ahead and help secure the Sky Blues the Championship.
She celebrated in fine style as well, and the Sky Blues would secure the trophy through a late Kyah Simon penalty.
Fishlock worldie makes history
Melbourne City swept all before them during their first two seasons in the Westfield W-League.
Their third however hit a big of a snag and City had to desperately fight to ensure they would make it a third consecutive Grand Final triumph.
Up against Sydney away from home, City needed some inspiration and up stepped Jess Fishlock once again in what was her last game for the club.
35 minutes in the Welsh international pounced on some lax possession and unleashed a rocket from range to open the scoring and set City on their way to a historic 2-0 win.
Sykes, sealed, delivered
Travelling to Perth is never easy during the season let alone a Grand Final but that’s exactly the task that Canberra United faced back in 2014.
With scores locked and extra-time on the horizon, Canberra were desperately looking for a hero.
Enter Ash Sykes.
The Canberra legend netted twice in the space of three minutes to deliver a second Westfield W-League Championship for the capital club and leave the home crowd absolutely shell-shocked.
