Westfield W-League Round 10 Review

Two massive away wins for Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United ensured the mid-table race for the Westfield W-League semi-finals remains hotly contested.

Brisbane ended their lengthy winless run by easing past old rivals Sydney FC in the TV match at Gosford with a 3-0 scoreline.

It was an even bigger 5-1 win for Adelaide who wrecked Newcastle Jets’ hitherto impressive defensive record. Abby Dahlkemper led the scoring for the Lady Reds who jumped into fourth, while the Jets conceded more goals in one game than they had all season.

Leaders Melbourne City maintained their winning run at the top of the Westfield W-League, but they were made to work overtime to see off Perth Glory.

City made it nine wins from as many starts but they didn’t break the deadlock until past the hour mark as Kim Little netted, before three more goals made for a 4-0 scoreline.

Second-placed Canberra United again secured a comfortable win. This time it was Melbourne Victory who were overrun with three unanswered second-half goals at McKellar Park.

Next Sunday sees another traditional derby taking centre stage on Fox Sports/ABC TV as Melbourne Victory host Sydney FC at AAMI Park, with the pair to meet for the first time at that venue since the memorable 2013 Westfield W-League Grand Final.
